I had never been afraid of death before. But I was afraid now. 1I had lost my mind. I had no idea what I was doing, and I had no idea who I was. I was torn between confused and disturbed 2by the body, and looking around the room. I was looking at a body behind me, and I saw something shiny on the floor. The body was still 3alive, but I could tell that it was closer to me. 4 The shiny object beckoned, glimmering faintly in the light of the dusk. The body cried out feebly. I could not say which held more sway over my actions. Could not say which was responsible for what I did next. 5I could not bear the thought of losing my body. The body was making my skin and muscles feel like they were about to 6explode. The skin on my back seemed to change, and I felt a stinging pain. 7
