INITIAL STORY BY SHELLEY

I could see the faint moonlight shining down on our ceiling. It was there, in the light, and I could see the outline of it's figure at 1the top of the basement stairs. It had no face, but it was in a long boney silhouette. It had no face, no nose, nothing but a black hole 2where it's eyes should be. 3 It hadn’t been long since my parents had said good night and gone off to dinner, leaving me alone in my bedroom4 trying desperately to ignore every creak and groan the house made in the October wind. But there it was: the shadow. I could not ignore it5 It seemed to lean down off the ceiling toward me, inquisitively tilting its featureless head. 6It seemed to be bent over with its head and neck, but it still had no eyes. It seemed to be staring at me, and I could 7feel its gaze on me. I could feel the hot breath on my face and suddenly I felt it. I was alone. I could not move. I could not move. I 8was deeply sick. 9 I was sick, thinking about how my parents weren’t there to help me. Sick, thinking about how I’d never see the sunrise again.10 “Y-y-yes?” I asked, my voice wavering. The shadowy figure drew even closer and it (he? she?) started to sing in dirge-like fashion 11. It started to sing at the top of her lungs. It said “You died by cutting your face, but you didn’t know what to do. 12You didn’t do it.” 13 Feeling rather ill now. I shuffle-stepped to my door, twisted the knob, and opened it. I could not believe what stood before me 14. What I saw will haunt me for the rest of my life. It was a man with a blood covered hand and a mask. The man was 15smiling, and I could see his face. He was smiling, and it looked like he was about to speak. 16 Any say in the matter. I started screaming, louder and louder, and then fainted of fright 17

It had no face, but it was in a long boney silhouette. It had no face, no nose, nothing but a black hole 2where it's eyes should be. 3 I turned to sheild my eyes from the horror -but- upon my double-take of the creature, it had advanced half the distance between us 4and the basement. It was sitting in the corner and I could hear it breathing. I was trapped. I knew it was not a dream. I 5knew it was a monster. I knew it was a creature. 6 just then, for reasons I have yet to fully comprehend. The theme tune from Ghostbusters began playing full stereo in my mind... 7I could feel the world change. I knew that something was behind me. 8 I spun round singing Ghostbusters loudly. The creature just stood there! motionless.. so I started dancing and playing air guitar. 9I started to feel something tickle my back. I turned my head slightly, and it stopped. I heard a soft whimper and something 10was coming down the stairs. I turned around. A big dog broke out of the master bedroom and into the living room. 11 A coyote was howling in the distance causing the dog to start barking insanely 12at the ghost. 13 The ghost possessed the dog with a loud howl. As I looked on in horror the dogs eyes turned green and it started snarling at me 14. I was completely frozen. I couldn't move. I was still in terror. I was frozen. I had no idea what to do. The thing in front 15of me came over to me and whispered my name in a weird way as if it was humming 16

In a flash the scene changes and I'm alone in the dark basement. In my hands I have 12 an apple. I eat the apple and summon the kraken. I'm done here. The monster curls up in a ball then fades back into the wallpaper 13
