"In the beginning, eight legs made for better hunting, but he eventually devised a way to make do with four." 1' My first thought was that he was a big field kid, he was five thousand years old. 2 "Lenny?" it called. Perhaps it had landed nearer the past than it thought. Real meat on its bones—wet brain or dry: who could say? 3Lenny was annoyed at his laughter and he was making this whole story for him. 4 "I'm sorry Lenny, but I did ask twice," it said, and slid the knife's tongue into the nape of his neck. What was mistaken for Lenny stiffened in a rictus of laughter, collapsed onto the ground, and shattered into 8-bit pixels of iced meat. "That's that, then," it said. 5The boulder of meaty, granite, sharp knifes, killed him a few times. Everything he revealed, he hadn't even blinked until 6he was being swallowed in a tidal wave of sticky water. 7
