The floorboards squeaked, announcing the arrival of someone. But there was no one there. More squeaks, getting closer. This had to be it! The spirit Maggie had been chasing for the last few days. She slowly rose from the chair. She was afraid to move. 1She looked down the hallway, and saw a figure. A woman. Maggots crawling around her and a woman standing on a tile. Her 2 She wanted to scream. She wanted to run. She knew, though, that if she had, this grotesque ghost would leave. She had come this far and didn't want to start over or lose it for good. This was personal. She need to find the answers. Her voice faltered as she tried to speak 3 "Mom?". The ghost didn't speak. Who was the other woman? "Who are you? Were you the one who killed my mother?" Maggie asked. With that, all hell broke loose. The woman on the tile started screaming. Objects were flung at Maggie one after another. 4 Maggie screamed and slammed the door shut. She leaned against the door but the objects kept coming, sounding like mortar fire on a battlefield. Just as sudden as it started, it stopped. Maggie opened the door a crack to look out. Both spirits were gone. 5
